Shotgun Certification for Georgia Security Personnel

This comprehensive shotgun training course is designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Georgia Board under Rule 509-3-.08. It is mandatory for all security personnel who are authorized to carry a shotgun while on duty. The course provides the knowledge, skills, and legal understanding necessary to safely and effectively deploy a shotgun in security operations.

Participants will engage in structured classroom instruction and hands-on qualification components that emphasize responsible firearm use, tactical readiness, and public safety.

Course Structure:

  • Classroom Instruction (Minimum 2 Hours)
    Students will cover the history and development of the shotgun, parts and operation of both pump (slide action) and semi-automatic shotguns, types of ammunition, and practical deployment in law enforcement and security settings.

  • Tactical Techniques and Safety
    Detailed instruction on shooting positions (standing, kneeling, sitting, prone) and special techniques like skip firing. Emphasis is placed on safe handling, transport, storage, and maintenance of the shotgun in line with agency and legal standards.

  • Assessment and Qualification
    The course concludes with a written examination and a live-fire range qualification, both requiring a minimum passing score of 80%. Range activities are conducted under the supervision of a Georgia Board-licensed firearms instructor, using an approved course of fire.
